The Hon. Laurie Hawn, PC, CD, MP for Edmonton Centre gives a Member's Statement on May 15th regarding CASA, Child, Adolescent, and Family Mental Health. CASA provides assessment and treatment services for approximately 3000 infants, children and adolescents from birth to age 18 each year though a continuum ranging from consultation in community outreach settings to very intensive treatment programs. The statement was made following the Annual CASA for Kids gala and fund raiser to support the cause of childrens mental health, which raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in one night alone.

The Hon. Laurie Hawn, PC, CD, MP for Edmonton Centre speaks in the House of Commons, saluting the Royal Canadian Air Cadet "Griffon" Squadron who visited the Hill today as part of their annual "Citizenship Week" road trip. The Cadet Program is, hands down, the best youth program in Canada. 395 is one of the oldest squadrons, having been formed on 11 April 1946. Their 160 cadets benefit from excellent leadership by the Cadet Instructor Corps, strong support from the Cadet Leagues of Canada and tireless effort by volunteers and parents.

The Hon. Laurie Hawn, PC, CD, MP for Edmonton Centre speaks on MP James Rajotte's (Edmonton-Leduc) Motion M-269 on Financial Literacy for Canadians. The Motion passed in the House of Commons by a vote of 269-3, would see the implementation of the recommendations of the Task Force on Financial Literacy, Canadians and Their Money: Building a Brighter Future. Also included in the Motion is a comprehensive website to help educate Canadians on financial issues, a requirement for financial institutions to publicly disclose their contributions towards the promotion of financial literacy, ensuring that the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada works with willing provinces and territories to help promote financial literacy in schools, and the designation of November as "Financial Literacy Month".
