Fly Day July 2 was a great day for an old fighter pilot. Vintage Wings of Gatineau, Quebec is doing a cross-Canada tour with several of their aircraft to commemorate the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. BCATP was one of Canada's major contributions to victory in WW2. Aircraft included an F-86 Sabre Jet, P-51 Mustang, Mark IV Harvard, Fairchild Cornell and PT-27 Stearman bi-plane. I had the great pleasure of spending an hour flying each of the Stearman and the Harvard.

Nijmegen March 2011 The Vierdaagse or Four Day Event is commonly called the March at Nijmegen. It started in 1909 as a means for the Dutch Army to stay in shape and has become the biggest civilian / military marching event in the world. 45,000 marchers from about 70 countries, including 5,000 military from about 25 countries take part. The military event is about 45 km per day for four days, in combat dress, boots and a rucksack. This will be my third time doing the march.

Open Minds Walk for Schizophrenia Joined a couple of hundred Edmontonians on Sunday to raise money for Schizophrenia. Walked 5 km with a nice lady named Renee and enjoyed the beautiful Edmonton morning. The fight against Schizophrenia and other mental disorders is one that does not get enough attention. 1-in-5 Canadians will suffer some form of mental illness in their lives.

'Royal' Canadian Announcement I joined Canadian Forces members at 4 Wing Cold Lake to celebrate an announcement made Tuesday morning in Halifax by the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, that the Government of Canada has restored the use of the historic designations of the three former services: the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), the Canadian Army (CA), and the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).
